HOW RAD STARTED

I started riding bicycles for my Motorbike Racing & i found that at the time there wasn't any shops serious about selling road & tri bikes in the Logan City / Mt.Gravatt areas. I then happened to see an ad in Bicycling Aust for Bianchi coming into Australia and anyone interested in selling the brand should contact the new wholesaler, so i spoke with them, had a meeting & hey RAD Cyclery was born. I designed the Rad Logo from my inspiration of Marco Pantani & his Giro & Tour De France wins in the same year. Then i got an idea of a shop, a little different from the average bike shop back then & after 10 years of trading we are still one of the leaders & the tradition continue's.

RAD EXTERIOR & INTERIOR

I started RAD Cyclery from a shop on Chatswood Rd @ Springwood on 14th November 1998. The southside of Brisbane has always been great for mountain biking in the Daisy Hill forest, road & triathlon training @ Mt.Cotton, Bayside & the Gold Coast hinterland. BIANCHI, WHEELER, & MALVERN STAR were my first bike brands in 1998, SHOGUN in 1999, MERIDA & RACELINE in 2000. I then had a choice from MERIDA or TREK in 2001, so we decided on TREK, CANNONDALE & FELT in 2002 & had just started with ORBEA when we decided to move to Loganholme

We re-located to Loganholme in October 2003 & carried on with our brands from Springwood, TREK, CANNONDALE, FELT & ORBEA into 2004 & with the upcoming 120th anniversary of BIANCHI i decided to drop ORBEA & give BIANCHI another go. We decided to concentrate on TREK, FISHER, CANNONDALE & had just re-introduced ORBEA for the 2008 season. We made some major changes for the 2009 year, with TREK, FISHER getting the boot due mainly to their business ethic's & we put CANNONDALE on the back burner for the year & decided to give BMC a go. I finally decided on Kona after 10 years, although nearing the end of the 2009 model year & we become an AVANTI, SPECIALIZED dealer during the 2009 year as well to go along side Argon 18.

We decided to re-paint the inside of the shop including new signage to incorporate the new colours for Rad Cyclery, which has now been completed. With Specialized deciding to go it alone, we have decided to stick with Avanti, who are now inporting the Scott brand into Australia now they have officially departed from Specialized. So with Avanti, Scott & Kona we hope this will keep consistant for a while as this industry is so full of changes, we have to keep up with it or get left behind, although i don't like changing brands.

RAD MEMORABILIA

Over the years you get to meet a lot of the Elite Athletes that are sponsored by the brands you sell at trade shows etc. So the 1st picture below is a signed Jersey from Stuart O'Grady where i met him at a seminar he was doing after he held the Yellow Jersey at the Tour 'de' France that year for a couple of days i think, then i got Robbie to sign the Green Jersey. I then managed to get a 'One Summer Series' shirt signed by the who's who of Multisports at the time. I also managed to scam the 24 Solo Jersey signed by my hero Craig Gordon after he had put himself in hospital winning the 2006 24hrs of Adrenalin World Solo Championships in Conyers Georgia USA, so thanks for that Karl.

RAD JERSEY TIME-LINE

The first Jersey we had done, as you can see was a pretty hurried version to celebrate the TOUR from 1998, then we decided to go a little low key with plain blue, which had a few brand logo's on it. Then for whatever reason we came up with the SPIDER WEB design, incorporating all of our colours, then i had the idea of the PATRIOTIC design while i was over in NEW ZEALAND for the XTERRA & then once i had qualified for the 24HRS OF ADRENALIN WORLD SOLO CHAMPS, i decided to go with it. We are now in the process of designing a completely new design with our new 2010 season corporate colours, MORE INFO SOON.
