It was my passion for two wheels that eventually led me to opening Rad Cyclery, although I had to start on three. It began back in the mid 70's racing around our local area on a Honda XR75, then fast forward to the late 90's and it was back on a motorbike, although this time it was a Suzuki GSXR750 on our local roads, some track days, then racing at Lakeside Raceway. I went from D to B-Grade in 3 years due to track time, setup and the fitness I gained through Mountain Biking and Triathlon.
It was during this time that I started servicing bicycles from my home workshop and noticed the lack of shops in my area that specialized in high end bikes and a proper workshop. So when the moto shop was sold, it was as good a time as any to start my own bicycle shop. We opened at Springwood on Friday 13th November 1998 just after Marco Pantani won both the Giro and Tour, which also became my inspiration for our classic Rad Man logo.
We moved to Loganholme in 2004 and as it got busier and busier, it was this that ultimately led me to return to the moto industry in 2012 to have a break from running the shop myself. I soon realised it wasn't the same and as I missed my shop, I re-opened Rad Cyclery at Tanah Merah in January 2018 as a bicycle service centre and added Rad 2 Wheels as our On-Line business.
The main part of the Rad business is servicing bikes, from the local BMX, to Mountain and Road Bikes. We have a list of services we provide from the very basic, through to full rebuilds and general repairs. We specialize in brake bleeding, suspension servicing, wheel repairs and truing which keeps me busy. I have kept up my training, although it's now split between endurance mountain biking and racing crits with the Gold Coast Masters.
